Price Comparison Shopping Assistant (using OCR) (B)

Background

Nowadays, mobile devices have become powerful computing platforms and, besides the added performance, they contain many different sensors that can be used for a wide range of applications. The high resolution display and high end camera make such devices suitable for interacting with the world.

Goals and challenges

The goal of this project is to investigate the use of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for building a shopping assistant on a mobile device. Even though OCR has already been used for many years, using such technology on more resource constrained devices like smartphones or smart glasses is still a challenge.

Requirements

  • Solid programming skills (Android, C/C++ preferred)
  • Background in image processing is necessary
