A Magic Lens for Visualizing Device Interactions (B)
The Internet of Things and Web of Things projects are about interconnecting everyday objects and giving them the ability to communicate and cooperate within smart environments. In this context, we recently prototyped a non-intrusive and intuitive augmented reality (AR) system for visualizing network traffic to the smart home user. A network sniffer application on an off-the-shelf router collects information about the data streams between smart things. The traffic flows are then visualized on a handheld device. The current AR frontend is using fiducial markers to detect devices on the video stream.
The goal of this project is to extend the current system, in particular regarding markerless object recognition and tracking, and using the AR interface to control devices and configure communication policies on the router (software-defined networking). We also encourage students to bring in their own ideas.
